Meet the Team

The core partnership of BBL Teacher Training is Breck Primary School, Broughton-in-Amounderness Primary School and Lytham Hall Park Primary School all of which are led by three inspirational headteachers.

All three of our core partner schools have been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Sharon Bowker, Headteacher, Lytham Hall Park Primary School
Sharon recently took her school to Outstanding under the new Ofsted framework. Sharon undertakes advisory work cross authority and cross partnerships.

Carolyn Singleton, Headteacher, Broughton-in-Amounderness Primary School
Broughton is an Ofsted Outstanding school and a top performing primary school in the country. Carolyn’s school met the criteria leading to eligibility for Teaching School Hub status.

Cheryl Brindle, Headteacher, The Breck Primary School
Cheryl has achieved consecutive Ofsted Outstanding recognition for her school, is a National Leader in Education and sub-regional representative for the Lancashire and West Yorkshire Teaching School Council.

Greg Halliwell, ITT Lead
Based at The Breck Primary School, Greg leads BBL Teacher Training across the entire BBL partnership. He works with all of our trainees, mentors, facilitators, partner schools and our Manchester based partners, Bright Futures.

Jane Curl, ITT Lead Support
Jane supports the leadership of BBL Teacher Training and is also the Headteacher of Carleton St. Hilda’s Primary School. Greg Halliwell and Jane Curl are the driving force behind our successful programme.

Dina Fielding, ITT Programme Support
Dina is a highly experienced and respected practitioner with Early Years expertise and is also based at The Breck Primary School. Dina regularly delivers on the programme and shapes the course content through the steering committee.  

Eleanor Davidson, Bright Futures SCITT Director
Eleanor is the Deputy Director of the Teaching School Hub; she holds strategic policy oversight for the Early Career Framework (ECF) and Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Eleanor also has strategic oversight of the Manchester/Stockport Teaching School Hub as well as the position of SCITT Director.

Maria Taylor, Finance and Administration
Also based at The Breck Primary School, Maria leads on the finance of the programme. She is also a School Business Manager and a School Resource Management Adviser (SRMA).

David Ashcroft, Headteacher, Thornton Primary School
David is Head of an ambitious local school in touch with its community and aspirant for all. Under his leadership the school has maintained its Ofsted rating and is committed to driving forwards with improving outcomes for children, linked to outstanding and good teaching. The school team has created a caring and inclusive school community which is valued by pupils and parents. A constant part of the team are the trainee teachers we place there.

Rachel Legge, Headteacher, Clifton Primary School
Rachel has raised the standard and quality of teaching during her tenure of headship. She has long established and embraced the need for grass roots teacher training. The school has coached, mentored and hosted many primary ITT and School Direct students.

Susan McGrath, Headteacher, Carleton Green Community Primary School

Susan has a long experience of working in senior leadership roles across different authorities and different types of schools, supporting new trainees. Carleton Green staff have a wealth of experience and knowledge of coaching and mentoring student teachers on placement.

Karen McCarter, Headteacher, Norbreck Primary School
Karen’s school in Blackpool was a founding partnership member and provides robust recruitment, retention and placements for our prospective students to our school based teacher training programme. As a Headteacher of a maintained school, she took her own school through acadamisation and has a senior leadership team which supports our ideology through meticulous coaching and mentoring.

Nicole Bitsakaki, Headteacher, Poulton St. Chad’s Primary School
Nicole is new to role from September 2021 following posts in two large schools in Blackpool, an international school in Hong Kong and the Deputy Head of a local school for 10 years. Her passion for teaching and learning complements the partnership and builds on the legacy of the retired Headteacher who fully supported the ITT teacher training programme.

Jenny Slater, Headteacher, Red Marsh School
Jenny is the Headteacher of Red Marsh School, a growing Special School based over two campuses in Thornton- Cleveleys. Staff from Red Marsh lead on the SEND training for BBL Teacher Training and offer high quality mentoring to our SEND trainees who are placed there. Jenny and her staff have long established links to schools across our partnership.

Jane Curl, Headteacher, Carleton St. Hilda’s Primary School
Jane has recently become the Headteacher of Carleton St. Hilda’s and will continue the relationship we have with this local Church of England school. All our trainees gain a wealth of different experiences through the diverse range of schools we offer. Jane was previously the Deputy Head of Lytham Hall Park Primary and brings with her a substantial amount of experience having worked with us on the delivery of ITT for a number of years.
