Expert mentoring forms the foundation of our programme. For each placement, trainees are assigned a mentor who will guide them every day, offering advice and feedback and the opportunity to apply their training in the classroom.

Through tailored support, trainees are gradually able to take on greater class responsibility over the year, enabling them to feel confident and ready to begin their career in the following September.

We offer two contrasting school placements in two different key stages, providing trainees with a broad experience. Trainees are immersed in our schools from day one and gain hands on practical teaching experience in the classroom every single week. The first school placement runs from September until Christmas and the second placement is from January until June.

3 programmes

We offer a choice of 3 distinct PGCE Primary with QTS programmes:

Early Primary

Primary 5 - 11yrs

Primary with SEND

Our weekly training sessions are delivered by our highly experienced and knowledgeable primary school teachers and headteachers who work within our partner schools. Our trainees learn directly from those who have the passion, expertise and enthusiasm for the curriculum area they are delivering training on.

In addition to 2 regular school placements, we provide a short enrichment experience. This experience gives trainees the chance to spend a day in a school with different characteristics, such as forest schools, small rural schools, nurseries, SEND schools, secondary schools and church schools.

Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) is an additional national requirement for 2024 and will take place over 20 days of the programme. The ITaP will grant trainees the opportunity to work with expert practitioners, access the latest and most pertinent research and most importantly it will allow trainees to practice the skills of teaching before embedding this into their everyday classroom practice.

Our PGCE is awarded through The University of Derby. Their Primary PGCE Programme has been recognised as Ofsted Outstanding across all assessed elements – the highest possible rating.

Trainees will spend 8 days throughout the training year working with the university’s expert mentors. 5 days are online and 3 days are spent in person in Manchester, making the PGCE easily accessible to all.
